In short: your recordings, edits and screenshots stay on your device. Nothing leaves it unless you share a link, upload to your own Google Drive or YouTube, or use an AI feature. We collect a little device and usage information to keep the app working, and nothing is sold or used for advertising.

1. Your videos and pictures

• Recordings, projects, edits and exports are saved on your phone, computer, or (in the web app) in your browser's storage on your computer.
• Screenshots taken with the Mac screenshot tool are saved where you choose (Pictures › Cinematic Recorder), copied to your clipboard, or shared with the app you pick. We never receive them.
• Share links: when you tap Share link, that one video is uploaded to our cloud storage (Cloudflare R2) and anyone with the link can watch or download it in a browser. The video is deleted automatically after 3 hours; the page then says the link has expired. You can delete it earlier from My links. For each link we count views and how long it was watched.

2. Information we collect

Without an account

The app creates a random install ID that is not linked to your name, phone number or email. With it, the app sends:

• App version, language, the kind of device (Android, iPhone, Mac, Windows or web), its model and system version
• Battery level and charging state while the app is open (to stop a recording before the battery runs out)
• Your country, worked out from your internet address; the address itself is not stored
• When the app was last open, and in-app events such as "recording finished", "video exported" or "link shared"
• Crash reports (the error and technical details) so we can fix bugs
• A notification token (Firebase) so we can send app announcements

If you sign in with Google

• Your Google account ID, name, email address and profile photo
• The devices you are signed in on (kind, model, system and app version, country, last active time), so you can see them under Signed-in devices and sign one out
• One account can be signed in on one device of each kind (one Android phone, one iPhone, one Mac, one Windows PC, one browser). Signing in on another device of the same kind signs the older one out.

If you upload to Google Drive or YouTube

When you tap Save to Drive or Upload to YouTube, the app asks Google for permission and then sends that one video straight from your device to your own Google Drive or YouTube channel. Our servers never receive the video or your Google access token.

• Google Drive (drive.file): the app can only see and create the files it saved itself, in a "Cinematic Recorder" folder. It cannot see the rest of your Drive. If you leave Anyone with the link can watch on, that one file is shared by link.
• YouTube (youtube.upload): the app uploads the video with the title, description, privacy setting, publish time and thumbnail you chose. If you turn on Add subtitles, the app also asks for youtube.force-ssl, only to attach those subtitles to that video. The app does not read, change or delete anything else on your channel.
• Our server only counts how many uploads you made (for the free weekly limit) and keeps the link to each uploaded video so you can find it in My uploads.
• The app uses YouTube API Services. By uploading to YouTube you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google handles your data under the Google Privacy Policy. You can remove the app's access at any time in your Google Account permissions.
• Cinematic Recorder's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. This information is used only for the upload you asked for. It is not used for advertising, not sold, and not read by people.

While recording

• Screen, sound and camera are used only to make the recording on your device.
• To place click rings and click/typing sounds, the app notes when you tapped or clicked (on a Mac, with your permission, also when keys were pressed) — never which keys or what you typed.
• Privacy shield: recording pauses by itself while chat and banking apps are open (on Android this uses Usage access; on the Mac, the list of open apps).

3. AI features

• Subtitles send the sound of the recording to an AI service to turn speech into text. With the app's AI credits it goes through our server to an AI provider (such as OpenAI or Google Gemini); with your own AI key it goes straight from your device to that provider, under its own privacy policy. With a local AI (Ollama) it never leaves your network.
• Finding private information to blur (emails, card numbers, passwords) runs on your device.
• AI edits such as zoom, click effects and sounds are worked out on your device.

4. How we use the information

• To run the app, sign you in, keep your account and Premium working, and deliver updates
• To count active users and see which features are used
• To find and fix crashes and stop misuse (for example one account shared between many people)
• To send announcements; you can turn notifications off in your device settings

We do not sell your information and do not show ads.

5. Who else receives information

• Google — Sign-In, Firebase (notifications), and the Drive / YouTube uploads you start (they go to your own Google account)
• Cloudflare — stores shared videos until they expire
• AI providers — only the sound you ask them to work on, as described above
• IP-to-country lookup — receives an internet address to tell us its country
• Our hosting provider, which runs the server this information is sent to

6. Permissions the app asks for

Screen recording, microphone, camera, notifications, drawing over other apps (floating controls on Android), usage access (privacy shield), installing updates (Android, for updates from our website) and, on a Mac, Screen Recording, Microphone, Camera and optionally Accessibility. Each is used only for the feature it is asked for, and you can turn any of them off in your device settings.

7. Keeping and deleting data

• Shared videos: deleted 3 hours after sharing, or when you delete the link.
• Drive / YouTube uploads: the video stays in your own Google account until you delete it there. Our count of uploads and their links are deleted with your account.
• Account information: kept until you delete your account. In the app open Profile › Account › Delete account, or see the Delete account page on our website. Your devices then stay only as anonymous installs.
• Recordings on your device: deleted when you delete them or uninstall the app.

8. Security

Connections are encrypted (HTTPS). Sign-in sessions are stored as one-way hashes on our server, and each device can be signed out at any time.

9. Children

The app is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

10. Changes and contact

We will update this page when the app changes; the date at the top shows the latest version. For questions or requests, use Bug report in the app's menu or the contact link on our website.
